Golden Tips for Baby Skin
Baby skin is extremely delicate and sensitive so we need to be very careful of any cleansers that we might use on the baby skin. Only use specific baby skin care products that have been formulated for use on babies as they have ingredients in them that are a lot milder and designed to reduce the incidence of rash and other skin irritations.
When we think of baby skin, we think, soft, smooth and flawless. The reality can be different, so prepare yourself to deal with the various spots, dots, and rashes that may appear from time to time on baby’s skin. If you find that your child is getting skin irritations, eczema or other skin problems, then you need to look at all aspects of the baby products that you are using. You will also need to look at the baby skin products that you are using to clean your child’s nappies/diapers, even the materials used for the clothing that your baby is wearing as some fabrics can irritate the skin.
It is quite common for children to get rashes and skin irritations at a very young age and there are some excellent baby skin care products on the market to help comfort a child during these times. Nappy rashes can be cured with nappy rash cream such as Aquaphor. Make sure the baby skin is moisturized well as dry skin can cause irritations. Use natural Baby Oil, or gentle non-preservative hypoallergenic baby lotion such as Aveeno Baby moisturizing cream and lotion. If you have any concerns, talk to your doctor or early childhood nurse.
Maintain high levels of cleanliness is very important, particularly nappies need to be changed regularly so your child remains clean and dry as much as possible. If you have a child with particularly sensitive skin you might need to consider using disposable nappies rather than washing reusable nappies as this will ensure that there are no cleaning residue that could cause skin irritations.
The condition of the baby’s room can also have a dramatic effect on the child’s skin and their breathing so make sure the room is clean and free of dust and dampness. Air baby’s bedding regularly, sun dry if possible, to remove any dampness as this can lead to mould and other bacterial problems that can cause skin irritations and also breathing problems.
Consider changing any products that you are using if you find that you are not resolving any skin issues, even those that you have used successfully on another child. Sometimes one product could cause problems whereas another similar product is completely satisfactory for your child.
